A rough ride, it was
The trade winds were blowing hard and the sailing was rough our first day at sea.
Everyone vomited continuously.
I was the only one to hold it back.
Barely.
When at sea, keep your eyes on the horizon.

San Juan del Sur
“Where are we?” Ania said as we rolled into San Juan del Sur, a beach town at the southern edge of Nicaragua.
American tourists filled the streets, prices were high and there wasn’t a mercado in sight. It didn’t feel like Nicaragua anymore. Family-resort-package-Costa-Rica was spilling over the border.
San Juan del Sur was nice, though. Surrounded by tropical, green mountains and statue-baring cliffs, it almost resembled a mini Rio de Janeiro.
Ania and I arrived to relax on a few cheap beaches before heading south to more expensive areas, but it was almost too late. We were surprised with $5 beach shuttles - a price three times higher than any other bus we rode in Nicaragua.
Offended, we packed our bags and hitchhiked the hell out of there to find less exploited beaches.
